A cleverly designed compact space, the apartment features a sculptural wooden cube in the centre of the space that houses all of the main services including the kitchen and bathroom, plus a study and a storage cupboard. The bedrooms overlook the bustling streets, whereas, pivoting full height glazed windows feature across the length of the living area offering a view of the modern terrace and extending the space to the outdoors dramatically in the summer months. Two long adjacent corridors run alongside the central enclosed cube, which ensures an abundance of natural light flows throughout the apartment.
The apartment was finished to a high standard by the developer and the new owner was keen to keep the layout and high spec finishes such as the grey terrazzo floor tiles, grey timber cladding and built-in Siemens, Neff and Bosch appliances. The grey and white colour scheme worked well as a contrasting backdrop and Maurizio worked with these staples as a blank canvas for the interior design scheme.
The client is a young professional who had relocated from Hong Kong. An advocate of Maurizio’s work and Italian design, she enlisted him to create a stylish and elegant ‘grown up’, interior. Maurizio was naturally able to draw inspiration from his Italian roots and chose Minotti as one of the main brands for the project. As part of the brief for the style of the scheme, she desired a modern, sophisticated apartment to retreat to. She also needed a space to enjoy entertaining family and friends in and also host elegant dinners for business colleagues.
The colour palette came naturally as Maurizio drew from the existing canvas, layering further shades of grey and blues and contrasted this with vibrant pops of colour and metallic finishes to bring it to life. The touch of gold adds luxurious detail, while the choice of red adds an element of vogue and grown up glamour. Both of which, Maurizio had interpreted as an extension of the client’s personality into her home.
From the moment I met Maurizio we had a connection, which was compounded by our mutual love of design and modern luxury elegance with a twist!
Our styles matched perfectly and as soon as I had a chance to view his work on the website, I just knew we had to work together on my project.
After living in Asia for many years and re-designing two flats there with contractors, this spot was perfect to switch to a design companion, as the building was already an award winning conversion and it needed me to stamp my own style on it, and that’s what we did!
From the beautiful Minotti main pieces of furniture, to the funky sexy speaker, the travel memory wall and the other touches of wall hangings, garden terrace pieces and wardrobe interior redesigns - we nailed it every step of the way. I truly love this home in Shoreditch, have re-gained my roots and am truly a Londoner once again. Thank you Maurizio for being part of that journey..
